Abbotsford Community Foundation is the most trusted centre for community giving, in Canada's most giving city. We are an independent, well-managed and respected planned giving agency that attracts and manages asset-based gifts for the long-term health of the community.
The Trethewey Family donated the first monetary gift in 1978 and the Matsqui-Abbotsford Parks and Recreation Foundation Society was incorporated on December 31, 1979. The founding Directors knew that the donation would enable our city to keep giving.
Since then, we have evolved through name changes, grown in reputation and registered as a charitable foundation. 30 years later, the initial donation remains intact, with only the income on the funds being spent annually, according to the Trethewey Family's original request.
As a Community Foundation, we embrace the power of sustainable giving. Donations are pooled and invested and the investment income is distributed as grants to local charitable organizations. All donations are tax decuctible. The capital is never touched and continues to grow with each new gift, generating income to meet a wide range of community needs for years to come.
