Helping clients make decisions that rest well with both their head and heart makes it all worthwhile. Last year we were able to create our second largest endowment fund, after receiving a call from a prominent lawyer in Abbotsford. He explained that his client had chosen to leave the majority of his estate to create an endowment fund, in support of students.

"The Hartley & Roslin Lovick Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund" is now administered by Abbotsford Community Foundation. It provides for three annual scholarships, each in the amount of three thousand dollars. It is a legacy that will continue to benefit local students for generations.

Mr. Lovick was a gentle person who would have avoided recognition for his generosity. Without family, it was his relationship with his trusted advisor that he valued most. Mr. Lovick's decision to contribute to his community speaks volumes about his character. Like many people in his generation, he lived a simple life, and didn't have a lot of money.

As a veteran, Mr. Lovick was fiercely independent and was proud to do what he thought was right. During estate planning, "Mr. Lovick was excited about putting their life's work into the scholarship program" explains his lawyer. Friends say he was the type of person that endeared himself to people, but valued his privacy.

Mr. Lovick was not concerned with details. His only requirement was that the full benefit of their contribution be put to good use. The Abbotsford Community Foundation makes it easy for estate planners to handle such requests. Asset based donations make sustainable giving possible for everyone. Your Community Foundation can inspire giving.
