Fund Options

The Abbotsford Community Foundation offers many fund options for directing your community-spirited gift. Some focus on giving now, while others enable donors to make giving a part of their estate planning strategy.

Designated or Agency Funds: support particular agencies, charities or organizations as named by the donor.

If you have a passion for a specific area of Abbotsford's welfare, you might consider directing your gift to a special designated fund. These funds encourage you to bring your vision to life in certain areas such as the arts, youth, seniors, education, the environment or whatever is important to you.

Your gift is invested with the donations of others, making the income earned on your gift more substantial than if you had donated independently to your special cause. Designated funds support specific charitable organizations in perpetuity.

Awards Fund: enabling deserving students to continue their education.

Gifts to the scholarship and bursary fund are awarded to graduating Abbotsford high school students. As a donor, you have the option of participating in the selections of the recipients yourself, or turning that responsibility over to the Foundation's selection committee. Awards can be established for any level of education. Donors can support their own school of learning or their chosen profession at the same time as they support their local community foundation.

Community Fund: held for general charitable purposes, enabling the foundation to respond to a broad range of community needs and opportunities.

Gifts to the Foundation's discretionary fund are also distributed to charitable causes. The fund is managed by a committee that works proactively with local organizations to find the most deserving area of need.

Donor Advised Fund: enabling ongoing donor participation in the distribution of income.

The donor, or the donor and an advisory committee named by the donor, give the foundation recommendations on distributions from time to time. In all disbursements, the chosen charity must be a registered charitable organization.

Flow-Through Funds: non-permanent funds destined to be passed directly through to a qualified charitable enterprise.

Such funds may be intended for a specific recipient or may be regarded as discretionary funds that are to be distributed by the Foundation to serve objectives set out by the donor. The donor receives an immediate tax deduction when the gift is made to the foundation, but distribution to designated beneficiaries can occur at a future date.

Named Funds: offers donors of significant gifts an opportunity to be recognized in a named fund.

Abbotsford Community Foundation can establish a fund named for the donor, family, corporation, association, deceased person, honoree, event or other entity. The purpose of the fund may vary depending upon the wished of the donor or honoree.
