After close to six decades as part of the Abbotsford community, Geoffrey (Geoff) Horner passed away on April 21, 2017 at the age of 82. Geoff is survived and deeply missed by Judy, his beloved wife of almost 57 years, his children and their spouses Brenda & Ron, Nicola & Paul, and Roger & Julie, and his 6 grandchildren Carley, Ashley, Shannon, Ian, Erika and Natalie. He will be fondly remembered by his many friends, colleagues and former students.
Geoff was best known as a teacher in Abbotsford for 35 years, and he spent the 25 years prior to his retirement teaching Math, Chemistry and Physics at Abbotsford Senior Secondary School. A passionate teacher and an innovative educator, Geoff was an inspiration to his many former students. Outside of the classroom, Geoff’s passions and interests included travel, stamp collecting, tennis, music, lawn bowling and playing games. He was known for his great sense of humour and fun, his genuine enjoyment of people, and the big smile that lit up his face and the lives of those who saw it. This, along with his caring nature and willingness to help others, earned him the love and respect of his students, colleagues, friends and family. He was blessed with a rare combination of gifts: exceptional intelligence combined with great humility. He was both an academic and a “people person”, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
