2021: A Year Like No Other

4 January 2022Grants & Funding, News & Announcements

From a continued pandemic, to heatwaves, to devastating flooding, this past year has not been short of challenges. That’s why we are so proud to be a part of the community of Abbotsford, which has enabled us to invest $1.2 million back into our community in 2021. We were honored that our donors trusted us to manage their gifts, ensuring the timely distribution of funds to where they were needed most.
Whether it was funding to support local farmers, connect neighbours, help at-risk families, or assist those impacted by flooding, local organizations and community members have continued to support our most vulnerable citizens. We are thrilled to share some highlights of the substantial impact our donors’ generosity had on our community in 2021:

  • The Abbotsford Disaster Relief Fund, created in partnership with the University of the Fraser Valley and the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce, opened for donations on November 17th and has since raised $3.4 million! We have already provided close to $350,000 of these funds to charities on the front lines helping those directly impacted by this disaster. We also continue to grant out more each and every week and are committed to ensuring the funds raised for this purpose will provide assistance with both short term and long term needs to those affected by the floods.
  • We granted a total of $125,000 through our Smart & Caring Community Grants fund to local charitable organizations that support kids and families at risk. This included a donation of more than $10,000 provided directly to the Starfish Backpack program.
  • A total of $160,250 in Agricultural Enhancement Grants were awarded to projects supporting agriculture innovation with a technology focus, including research and development, in partnership with the City of Abbotsford.
  • A total of $17,000 was granted to 30 community projects through the Responsive Neighbourhood Small Grants program, in partnership with the City of Abbotsford and the Vancouver Foundation
  • We granted a total of $360,000 in scholarships and bursaries through our Student Awards Program to 302 local students graduating from Abbotsford secondary schools.

All of this would not be possible without the incredible support of our donors, volunteers, partners, staff, and supporters. Together, we build a stronger, more caring community!
