We’re pleased to announce that our 2021 Student Awards program allocated 365 scholarship and bursary awards – totaling just over $360,000 – to graduating Abbotsford students for their post-secondary education goals.
“Thanks to the generosity of local community groups, companies and individuals, we have been able to financially assist 302 students planning to attend university, college, or training institutions this coming fall,” said Andrea Senft, our Board Chair.
Since this program started in 1995, we’ve provided more than $5.5 million dollars in scholarships and bursaries to Abbotsford high school graduates. “ACF is proud to partner with the Abbotsford School District to facilitate this program ”, said John Morrow, Chair of the ACF Student Awards committee and member of the Board of Directors. “Our impact on these students’ learning is a lasting legacy for the community and the ACF is honoured to be able to invest in the future of our local young people, thanks to the generosity of our donors. This program is inspiring in so many ways”!
Student awards are funded by income from endowments and from annual donations. This year there were several new student awards including the Dalbir & Pirtveer Gill Memorial, Linda Marie (Busch) Jacobsen Memorial, Abby’s Music Society, Rise Annual Scholarship and the Vandell Student Award.
The following high schools are part of our Student Awards Program: Abbotsford Senior Secondary, Abbotsford School of Integrated Arts (ASIA), Abbotsford Traditional Secondary, Bakerview Centre for Learning, Mennonite Educational Institute Secondary (MEI), Rick Hansen Secondary, Robert Bateman Secondary, W. J. Mouat Secondary, and Yale Secondary.
Even with the changes in graduation convocation ceremonies, we were still able to provide virtual congratulatory messages from our donors to their selected recipients and scholarship recipients sent a photo of themselves with their award letters which were shared with the donors.
