The Abbotsford Community Foundation has a long history of investing in our community and one of our initiatives that helps accomplish this is our Student Awards program, aiming to increase access to post-secondary education for local graduating students. These scholarships and bursaries are funded by student award endowment funds and support from annual student award donors. The program is open for applications each year for the first three weeks of February and recipients are chosen in April. Students then receive a notification at their convocation ceremonies in June of which awards they have been chosen to receive.
We’re thrilled to announce that this year’s Student Awards Program has allocated 347 awards totaling $360,000 for local students. New to the Student Awards program in 2021 are 18 awards of $1000 each for nine students with special needs and nine students in care, funded by the Board of Education. Every secondary school will see one student with special needs and one student in care receive $1,000 each.
Students with good academic standing and financial need are considered for these awards, and all students meeting the criteria are automatically eligible and considered for these awards. School counsellors and the ACF Student Awards Committee then select the successful recipients.
The ACF is proud of our long history supporting Abbotsford graduates with their post-secondary education dreams through the Student Awards program. To date we have helped more than 5,000 graduates with more than 5.5M in scholarships and bursaries!
