Abbotsford Community Foundation awards an additional $93,000 in grants through Emergency Community Support Fund
The Abbotsford Community Foundation (ACF) has awarded $93,000 in grants to 13 charities in a second round of funding to address some of the most pressing needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic and the effects this has had on our most vulnerable citizens.
We are proud to have partnered with Community Foundations of Canada and the Government of Canada to deliver the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF) in Abbotsford.
Round 1 of ECSF was distributed over the summer and Round 2 launched on October 5, 2020. With Round 2, we’ve invested an additional $93,000 through the ECSF towards local charities and other qualified donees supporting populations experiencing heightened vulnerability during this crisis. We are pleased to announce the ECSF has supported projects including:
- $8,949 was invested to fund Archway Community Services Emergency Food Hampers which provide food security for vulnerable South Asian families;
- $9,954 was invested to fund Kinghaven Peardonville House Society “Community Links” which provides support to help minimize overdose deaths and prevent relapse;
- $10,000 was invested to fund SARA for Women “Multicultural Outreach” which provides essential services to vulnerable women and children who are at risk of violence and abuse.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic was declared over ten months ago, community-based charities and nonprofit organizations have been working diligently to provide emergency support, to individuals and communities experiencing heightened vulnerability.
Charities, nonprofit organizations and First Nations governments are pillars of their communities who are working tirelessly to serve their communities. We know the need for funding is still significant and we’re continuing to advocate for broader recovery and stabilization support for the charitable sector. “The effects of the pandemic on the charitable sector and the people that they serve are far reaching and extremely challenging. We are pleased to be able to assist in flowing this funding to our community”, said ACF Board Chair, Andrea Senft.
As the Charity for Charities, the ACF has distributed more than $12M in grants since 1979. We are proud of our more than 40-year history of giving to the community of Abbotsford. The Emergency Community Support Fund is an example of ACF’s ongoing commitment to inspiring, impacting and investing in our community.
The Abbotsford Community Foundation will be here when it counts. We have been here for more than 40 years and will be here when it counts for 40 more.
