September Formally Proclaimed Community Foundations Month in British Columbia
September has been formally proclaimed as Community Foundations Month in British Columbia. The initiative aims to educate British Columbians about community foundations’ role in supporting non-profits and charities in their community.
“The Abbotsford Community Foundation (ACF) is thankful to be one of the 49 community foundations in BC that are here to connect donors with the causes that matter to them”, said Wendy Neufeld, Executive Director. “The ACF is a grant making public charity that is dedicated to improving the lives of people in our local community. We bring together the financial resources of individuals, families, and businesses to support the important work our Abbotsford charities are doing to help our vulnerable populations”.
British Columbia is home to 49 of Canada’s 191 community foundations. Therefore, they make significant philanthropic contributions to their communities across the province. Community foundations work with donors and partners to create permanent endowment funds and then use the income to support local charities. The original capital is endowed so that it generates income in perpetuity. Community foundations help guide volunteer efforts and financial support to where it will have the greatest impact. We also work to convene local partnerships and conversations around emerging issues.
Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We are here to help you and help the charities that do amazing work in our community. Our Smart & Caring Community Fund provides grants to local charities that support children and families at risk in Abbotsford. We invite our community members and businesses to share their passion for Abbotsford by supporting the Smart & Caring Community fund. We truly Give Where We Live!
