Student Award Recipient Shares His Appreciation for the Scholarships He Received Through the 2021 Student Awards Program

Grants & Funding, Stories of Impact

The Abbotsford Community Foundation (ACF) has a long history of investing in our community and one of our initiatives that helps accomplish this is our Student Awards Program, aiming to increase access to post-secondary education for local graduating students. Earlier this year, we were thrilled to continue this initiative by giving out 347 awards totalling $360,000 for local graduating students, thanks to the generosity of our donors.
One of the well-deserving recipients, David Neufeld, received three awards to help with his post-secondary goals after graduating from W.J. Mouat earlier this year. David plans to attend UBC with a goal to receive an education in electrical automotive or advanced prosthetics. The three awards he received include:

1) a $500 Abbotsford Minor Hockey Association award,
2) a $1,000 Geoff Cowell Memorial award, and
3) a $3,000 Fandrich Cone Harvesters award.
David received an Abbotsford Minor Hockey Association award for his excellent sportsmanship, academic achievement and goals, leadership and volunteer work. He received a Geoff Cowell Memorial award for being the top graduating W. J. Mouat Math/Science student. Lastly, David received a Fandrich Cone Harvesters award for his entrepreneurial spirit and potential to invent machines or processes.
After receiving his three awards, David kindly shared the following message with ACF:
“I would like to give my most genuine thank you to the Abbotsford Community Foundation as well. You have made these scholarships very accessible and have done an excellent job in connecting passionate students with donors who have a desire to build into the next generation. I convinced some of my friends to apply for some scholarships through ACF even though none of them had yet to apply for a single other scholarship. Several of them won scholarships and I think that is a job well done by Abbotsford C.F., to open the door for students who are hesitant to apply even if they are deserving of the awards. So for that, as well as my own awards, my most genuine thank you!”
