Celebrating Ramadan: A Time for Reflection, Gratitude, and Giving
24 February 2025News & Announcements
Ramadan is a sacred month observed by Muslims around the world, marked by fasting, prayer, and acts of charity. In 2025, Ramadan is expected to begin on the evening of February 28 and conclude on the evening of March 29. While fasting from dawn to sunset is a core component, Ramadan is also about generosity and compassion—values that align closely with the spirit of philanthropy and community support. Giving during Ramadan is not just an obligation but a deeply cherished practice that strengthens communities and uplifts those in need. It is a time of reflection, gratitude, and an opportunity to extend kindness to those who need it most.
THE MEANING OF GIVING DURING RAMADAN
One of the most significant aspects of Ramadan is the emphasis on charitable giving. Muslims are encouraged to support those in need, whether through monetary donations, food assistance, or community service. This generosity is expressed through two primary forms of charity: zakat and sadaqah.
- Zakat is a mandatory form of giving, requiring Muslims to donate a portion of their wealth (typically 2.5% of savings) to support the less fortunate. This ensures economic balance and provides assistance to those struggling with poverty, debt, or other hardships.
- Sadaqah refers to voluntary charity, given at any time, in any amount, and in any form. It can be monetary donations, food, clothing, or even acts of kindness, such as helping a neighbor or offering a smile.

THE LASTING IMPACT OF RAMADAN GIVING
At its heart, Ramadan is about reflection, gratitude, and giving. The acts of generosity performed during this month extend far beyond its duration, creating a ripple effect of kindness and support that benefits communities year-round.
As we continue our mission of supporting the community of Abbotsford, we celebrate the generosity that Ramadan embodies. By giving, we not only help others but also strengthen the bonds of our communities. From all of us at ACF, to all those observing, we wish you a blessed and peaceful Ramadan.
Ramadan Mubarak!
