Richard Meyer Electrical Services: Lighting Up the Community with Care and Compassion

2 August 2024News & Announcements, Stories of Impact

In the world of electrical services, Richard Meyer Electrical Services (RMES) shines bright. Established in 2008 by Richard Meyer himself, the company has grown from a one-man operation to a thriving business, committed to their values and known for their quality service.

A BRIGHT BEGINNING

RMES’s journey began with Richard’s determination to prove his value in the electrical services industry. When he first set out to start his own electrical business, Richard was able to prioritize his core values in his work. His first client, a business that operated an equestrian center, marked the beginning of a remarkable journey. Not long after, Richard hired a part-time employee to assist him, who soon became full-time. Despite humble beginnings, RMES quickly gained traction, attracting clients in industrial, commercial, and agricultural sectors. After nine months of business, the business exploded with clients, allowing him to hire three more employees to help with operations, including his wife Adrianne.

From the outset, RMES has been guided by honesty, trust, respect, and fairness – the foundation on which their company stands. RMES believes in building relationships, not just completing transactions and this approach has earned them a reputation for reliability and trustworthiness via word of mouth in Abbotsford.

NAVIGATING BUSINESS CHALLENGES

Like most businesses, RMES has faced its share of challenges. From the economic uncertainties brought by COVID-19 to the devastating floods that swept through Sumas Prairie, RMES has weathered many storms. When the pandemic first began, they had a team of 28 staff. However, supply chain issues forced them to lay off over half their staff, a decision that was incredibly difficult given how much they value their team.

Only a couple of years later, the floods of November 2021 damaged a substantial amount of inventory that they had on their farm, resulting in a loss of majority of what they owned. And while RMES continues to face uncertainty with the state of the economy and recovering from recent setbacks, the company has remained committed to its values and our community, finding ways to give back even in the toughest of times.

PERSONAL COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY

As a young girl who grew up with not a lot of food in her home, Adrianne knows firsthand what it feels like to face food insecurity as a child. This is part of what drives Richard and Adrianne to give back, particularly to ACF’s Smart & Caring Fund in support of children, youth, and families at risk. As the Title Sponsor of our Smart & Caring Golf Classic, Richard and Adrianne value the opportunity to make a difference for those in our community that are struggling. They want others to know they’re not alone.

This sponsorship is just one of many where RMES demonstrates their deep commitment to giving back to our community. They feel empowered to help others because, as successful business owners, they recognize that they have the ability to make a difference, so they do. In addition to sponsoring our annual Smart and Caring Golf Classic, RMES supports other community initiatives like the Abbotsford Agri-Fair, in which they have sponsored for many years despite the financial challenges they have faced themselves. Their own personal story is and has always been about community.

A LASTING LEGACY OF GIVING

Looking to the future, RMES hopes to leave a lasting legacy of community involvement and impact. They aspire to be remembered not just as a successful business but as a company that made a difference in the lives of others. For those looking to make a positive impact, RMES offers simple yet powerful advice: give what you can, when you can. Whether it’s through donations, volunteer work, or simply lending a helping hand, every contribution matters.

By giving back, they recognize we can create a brighter, more caring community for all. Richard Meyer Electrical Services is not just a business; but an example of how a company can light up a community with kindness and compassion.
